Announcing New Award

A message from our Producing Artistic Director

Dear Premiere Stages Friends, Supporters, and Patrons,

With every challenge comes opportunity. And in times like these, we have looked to our artists to help heal and re-inspire our communities. So, while we have had to adjust our approach at Premiere, I want to let you know that in the coming months we are committed to increasing the opportunities for artists and the programs that inspire them.

Our extended plan for programming begins in July 2020 and extends through October 2021 and includes a new initiative - The Premiere Senior Endeavor Awards – a playwriting competition specifically for New Jersey residents that provides cash awards and extended benefits for writers in three categories: rising high school seniors, seniors living in residential communities and seniors enrolled at Kean University. Accepted entries will be one-act plays inspired by or in response to the challenges of COVID-19. Selected plays will be afforded professional readings for the public in October 2020. For more information, please visit the Senior Endeavor Awards.

We will also honor our commitment to the five finalists who were selected as part of the 2020 Festival; produce our 2019-20 Liberty Live Commission, Robey by Joe Sutton; bring back some of your favorite playwrights for a very exciting celebration; and engage children and their families through our popular Camp Premiere and Play Factory Performances. Look for a complete season announcement in the coming weeks.

Events that were slated to be at Premiere Stages prior to July will be rescheduled. The season announcement will also include information concerning the rescheduling of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship Readings and Healing Voices: Caregivers’ Stories Onstage. As together we navigate the current situation, we would like to thank these caregivers, as well as our nurses, doctors, EMTS and health care workers on the front line.

Our team remains fully available to address your questions but we are currently telecommuting and have limited access to voicemail. Please contact us at premiere@kean.edu for a prompt reply to your query.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate this unprecedented challenge to our community.

Wishing you continued health and happiness,
