Premiere Stages Play Festival History

Frequently
Asked
Questions

When can I submit my script for consideration?

The 2018 Premiere Play Festival will begin accepting submissions on September 15, 2017. Playwrights will have until 11:59 p.m. on December 15, 2017 to send their submissions to pfsubmit@kean.edu.

Is there a fee to submit a script to the Play Festival?

No. There is no application fee for any Premiere Stages program.

Can I submit a full script?

Premiere Stages accepts full scripts from agents, previous semi-finalists, and select invited writers. Other playwrights must submit a script sample and supporting materials, after which we may request a full copy of the script.

My play has had a reading/workshop. Is it still eligible?

Readings and workshops do not disqualify a script from entry into the Play Festival; as a general rule, showcases and AEA Showcase Code productions do not either, unless the showcase ran repeatedly or was covered by major press outlets. If you are unsure, we suggest you contact us to confirm that your script is eligible.

When will I be notified of your decisions?

Playwrights whose scripts are semifinalists will be notified in February to confirm that the script and playwright are still available; finalists will be notified in late February, and rejection notices will be sent as soon as finalists are confirmed. All playwrights will be contacted before the Play Festival itself in March.

Can I submit a play I have submitted before?

We strongly advise against submitting a play that you have submitted before unless you have spent considerable time revising the play and it is substantially different from the previous draft.

Do you give playwrights feedback on plays?

We are happy to offer playwrights feedback, if requested. If you would like feedback on your work, please reply to the email announcing our decision to say so. Due to the high volume of requests, please allow 3-4 weeks to receive feedback.

Who are some of the past finalists of the Play Festival?

Premiere Stages has developed the work of over forty playwrights through the Play Festival; past finalists have included Dominique Morisseau, George Brant, Kimber Lee, Jeff Talbott, Tammy Ryan, Keith Josef Adkins, Kate Cortesi, Sarah Gancher, Lindsey Ferrentino, Rogelio Martinez, Nick Gandiello, Keelay Gipson, and Willy Holtzman.
