When can I submit my script for consideration?
Submissions open September 1, 2019 and close at 11:59 p.m. on December 1, 2019. All submissions should be sent as a PDF through Submittable at: premierestagesatkean.submittable.com
Is there a fee to submit?
No. There is no application fee for any Premiere Stages program.
Can I submit a full script?
We accept full scripts from agents, previous semi-finalists, and select invited writers. Other playwrights must submit a script sample and supporting materials, after which we may request a full copy of the script.
Are script samples given the same consideration as full scripts?
All sample packets submitted are read in their entirely and given consideration for inclusion in the Play Festival. We request full scripts from writers of interest as soon as we have read the sample and determined our interest in the play; this can be anywhere from a few days to several months after the submission is received. Throughout the years, multiple samples have been selected as semifinalists, finalists, and winners. The most recent winner that was submitted as a sample packet was Linger by Craig Garcia in 2018.
What do you consider an "unproduced" play?
Readings and workshop productions do not disqualify a script from entry. However, if there is significant press and critical reviews, the production ran for a significant period, featured an all AEA cast, or if the production was referred to publicly as the "world premiere," we generally consider those scripts ineligible. If you are unsure, we suggest you contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm that your script is eligible.
My play has had a reading/workshop. Is it still eligible?
Readings and workshops do not disqualify a script from entry; as a general rule, showcases and AEA Showcase Code productions do not either, unless the showcase ran repeatedly or was covered by major press outlets. If you are unsure, we suggest you contact us at email@example.com to confirm that your script is eligible.
Will I be notified of your decisions? When can I expect to hear from you?
Playwrights whose scripts are semifinalists will be notified in February to confirm that the script and playwright are still available; finalists will be notified in late February, and rejection notices will be sent as soon as finalists are confirmed. All playwrights will be contacted before the Spring Reading Series in March.
Can I submit a play I have submitted before?
We strongly encourage the submission of new work each year. However, we do make final determinations on a case-by-case basis, so please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about submitting a script that has previously been submitted.
Do you give playwrights feedback on plays?
We are happy to offer playwrights feedback if requested. If you would like feedback on your work, please email email@example.com after the finalists are announced in March. Due to the high volume of requests, please allow 3-4 weeks after the Spring Reading Series to receive feedback.
Who are some of the past finalists of the Premiere Play Festival?
